Gaël Faye revient à l'écriture et dévoile à ses lectrices et lecteurs, personnage après personnage, le génocide contre les Tutsis. Comme dans Petit pays, l'angle narratif est personnel, peut-être en partie autobiographique mais, cette fois, illustre au delà du narrateur l'impact du génocide sur la société Rwandaise, les survivants et les nouvelles générations. Faye est pudique et les dialogues sont simples, ce qui nous laisse face à l'histoire, pesante, dure, atroce. Une lecture touchante, et utile pour aborder le Rwanda actuel.
